We love our food, whether it’s mum’s speciality or our favourite snack. But what about the colour of our food? Many snacks, sweets and sugary drinks get their bright colours from artificial food colours and synthetic additives. They may make your food look cool, but they can also have unpleasant consequences, such as allergies, hyperactivity in children or even long-term health problems.
The good news? Nature gives us many colours in food that are actually good for us. Think of the deep red of strawberries, the bright oranges of carrots or the rich green of spinach. These natural colours don’t just look great — they also contain lots of nutrients that provide your body with energy.
