In 1961, in the middle of an Antarctic storm, surgeon Leonid Rogozov found himself in a precarious situation: he had severe appendicitis and no hope of evacuation. As he had no surgical team and time was running out, he made a courageous decision— – he operated on himself.

With only a mirror, local anaesthetic and the help of a meteorologist and a dentist, Rogozov began an amazing two-hour operation. Miraculously, he removed his own appendix, defied all odds and emerged victorious.

Rogozov’s remarkable story is a testament to human resilience and the power of determination in the face of adversity. It reminds us that even in the darkest of times, courage and ingenuity can lead to miracles.
